"Julius Caesar" BUST
1998
Clay
24 x 24 x 24 inches
By age seventeen, Gabe felt powerfully drawn toward sculpture. This depiction of his friend William Tombs as Julius Caesar is an example of his turn to three dimensional art, though a lifelike sketch of his friend William also dates from this period. For the duration of their time at Western Albemarle High School, Gabe and William met many times a week in the art classroom. Between 1995 and 1999, the class there became a group of dear friends, and together produced a prolific amount of art over these four formative years.
